Terms of service
Gowalko · last updated 30 August 2026
These terms cover your use of the Gowalko app. Using the app means
accepting them. If you do not, the remedy is simple: do not use it, and delete
your account.
What the app is
Gowalko is a self-guided walking-tour app. It shows you places, suggests
walks between them, draws a route, and reads a short description aloud when you
arrive. It is a guide, not a navigation product and not a safety product.
Walk carefully. Routes are computed from
OpenStreetMap data, which is contributed by volunteers and is not always current.
Alleys close, gates lock, roads change and GPS is unreliable between tall walls
and under covered markets. Use your own judgement, obey local signs and
traffic, and watch where you are going rather than your phone. We cannot
promise a route is safe, open, accessible or legal to walk, and you use it at
your own risk.
About the content
Place descriptions, narration and quiz questions are generated by an AI model
from public map data. They are checked for shape but not fact-checked line by
line, and they may contain mistakes — a wrong date, a
mis-attributed building. Treat them as an enthusiastic guide rather than a
reference work. Opening hours, prices, phone numbers and addresses come from
OpenStreetMap and may be out of date; check with the place itself before relying
on them.
Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and is used under the
Open Database Licence.
Photographs carry their own credit and licence where they are shown.
Your account
You need an account to use the app. Keep your password to yourself; you are
responsible for what happens under your account. Give us an email address that
is actually yours. One person, one account.
We may suspend or remove an account that is being used to break these terms,
to abuse the service, or to attack it. You can delete yours at any time, from

Paid features
- Three things are paid: the audio narration, walks beyond the free one in each city, and the stop quiz. Everything else — browsing every city, every place and every walk, the map, and the written descriptions — is free.
- You can try the paid parts before buying, and each is tried differently. Every city keeps one complete walk free, start to finish. Narration is metered: two stops read aloud each calendar month, at no charge. The quiz is previewed rather than metered. Nothing here is a time-limited trial that expires — the free walk and the monthly narrations stay free whether or not you ever buy anything.
- Purchases are made through Google Play, which takes the payment and holds your payment details. We never see them.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel through your Google Play account, not through us — we cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf.
- Refunds are governed by Google Play's refund policy and by your statutory rights. If a refund is granted, the corresponding feature locks again.
- If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you normally have fourteen days to withdraw from a purchase of digital content. Everything sold here is delivered immediately — the moment a purchase is confirmed, the feature unlocks and you can use it — and by buying you ask for that immediate delivery and acknowledge that you lose the fourteen-day right of withdrawal once it has begun. That is exactly why every paid part can be tried before you pay for it: a whole free walk in every city, and two narrations a month. This does not affect your other statutory rights, including your rights if what you bought is faulty or not as described.
- A one-time unlock stays unlocked on any device you sign in to with the same account. Use Restore purchases after reinstalling.
- Prices may change. A change never applies to something you have already paid for.
What you may not do
- Scrape, bulk-download or resell the content, or use it to build a competing catalogue.
- Attack, overload or probe the service, or try to reach other people's accounts.
- Work around the paid features rather than paying for them.
- Use the app anywhere it would be illegal to.
Availability, and the limits of what we promise
The app is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always be available,
that a route will always be computable, or that the content is complete or
accurate. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect
or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to what you have paid
us in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here removes any right you have as a consumer that cannot be removed
by agreement — in particular your statutory rights under EU or UK consumer law.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date at the top says when they last changed,
and continuing to use the app means accepting the update. For anything else, see
the privacy policy or write to us.
